Optimising Performance Using The SWAPPATH Statement

Last Updated: 13th January, 1995

Symptoms

After installation Warp runs slowly, or is unstable.

Problem

The default swapfile in Warp is 2 meg, too small for most systems. If the swapfile grows over discontiguous areas of the hard drive, data transfer will be interrupted by drive head movement. On some systems this seems to contribute to instability.

Procedure

Increase the size of the swapfile. For systems with 16 meg ram or less, try changing the entry in config.sys to:

    SWAPPATH=drive:\directory 2048 20480

This will prebuild a 20 meg swapfile over a contiguous area of drive space.
