Optimising Windows Performance Under Warp
Last Updated: 13th January, 1995
Symptoms
Windows sessions operate slowly.
Problem
The default WinOS/2 settings are suboptimal for many systems.
Procedure
For best performance, change the following WinOS/2 settings for all windows
sessions:
- Run applications in a full screen session.
It takes extra system processing to remap the windows display to the OS/2
desktop.
- Set WIN_DDE off
If you don't use DDE between OS/2 and WIndows programs, turning this off
will improve performance.
- Change DPMI_Memory_Limit to 16 or less.
The default is 64 meg!
- Set EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT to 0
- Set XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT to 0
- Set SESSION_PRIORITY to 2 or 3
On many systems this improves mouse responsiveness.
