Yep, it's me. This was taken by Kris P, at Asquith Boys', using a digital camera.
Greetings from sunny downtown Hornsby Heights, in northern Sydney, NSW, Australia.
I enjoy Electronics, Amateur Radio, Photography and playing around with computers / Internet.

My amateur callsign is VK2YJS. My main interests are 6m, 2m, 70 cm and 23cm FM voice. I occasionally use 2m SSB. The all-important "smoke" got out of my 10m set, so might be a while before I am back to 10m FM. I should do more packet. For this I use Baycom and a home-built modem on 2m. I am a member of NZART, New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters; the ARRL, The American Radio Relay League; and HADARC, the Hornsby and Districts Amateur Radio Club. | ![]() |
I'm a member of WICEN NSW Inc, previously called the Wireless Institute Civil Emergency Network. This is an organisation of trained volunteers who use amateur radio and other resources to provide communications support to other emergency services during disasters. WICEN also provides communications for many community and sporting events. WICEN has been activated for a number of recent disasters.
I've written a guide to Broadcasts in English which can be heard in Europe using an "ordinary" mediumwave or "AM" radio.
I have recently completed the Diploma in Library and Information Services at TAFE. I have a background in the electronics and radio communications industries. I hold a Broadcast Operators Certificate (BOCP).

Some cool car pages:
Web pages are constructed from specially formatted text files, which contain the text on the page plus instructions to your browser on how to display this text, and generally directions to it on how to display one or more images. While you can use a range of programs to automatically generate these special text files, you can easily write them using a basic text editor. Notepad in Windows in is fine, but Notespad (notice the "s" in the middle) from Bremer Corporation is better.
I recommend the "NCSA (at UIUC) Beginner's Guide to HTML". NCSA is the National Center for Supercomputer Applications, at the University of Illinois. Go to http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimer.html, select the full version (rather than the 3 part one), then save it (and the little graphic used for inline graphic examples, although it works without this). You can now read it offline, and refer to it whenever you need.
You could also try HTML Pocket Reference by Jennifer Niederst.
The reviewer started: "The author of the best-selling Web Design in a Nutshell, Jennifer Niederst, delivers a concise guide to every HTML tag in this pocket reference...".
You can buy the 92 page 2nd edition in paperback for US$8.95. Just click here.
If writing HTML in a text editor isn't your idea of fun, then Dreamweaver is probably one of the better packages. Students, teachers, etc can purchase at special academic prices.
Once you have written it, you need an FTP (File Transfer protocol) client that is able to "put" files onto a server. Browsers can download files from FTP sites, but not put them up. WS-FTP from ftp://ftp1.ipswitch.com, or via TuCows is good. Generally your ISP (Internet Co.) provides you with a good chunk of web space as part of your access deal.
