Welcome to our homepage about building your own home from the ground up. We are now nearing the end of all the building. Only the man about the home has to paint the skirtings and then we can enjoy some warm carpet beneath our feet. This story though started some time ago.
Planning to build and move into your new home tends to take longer than you realise at the start. And if you are contemplating that you will manage to build it all yourself, then think again. We have very much enjoyed (while paying for) the services of licenced plumbers, electricians, bricklayers and lately a plasterer and a tiler. But a lot of the other work has involved sacrificing many a weekend.
Try to co-opt your friends and family to rally around various special times of the year, say your birthday, to come and help you with the building.
Well, here are some photographs of our new abode at various stages:
| Family has come to give a helping hand, but we had to feed them first! | ![]() Some work has taken place already. Now to put family to use. |
Our new home is located in the remnants of a forest near a rural area north-west of Sydney. There were many dead trees and some termite mounds on our property when we bought it. The termite mounds are still on the property, but well away from the dwelling. Bearing in mind though that termites like timber, we decided to build a steel frame house, which we would later clad with brick.

After this day's lunch, some eager family members rose to bolt up some of the Roof Trusses. |
| Another working bee. Yes more family and friends have come to give us a hand. The best thing though is that the bricklayers have done their bit. | ![]() What would you like us to do now? |
![]() The Roof's on! |
Well, the roof's on, but the fiddly ridgecaps have to be put into place now. |
| Time to put the capping on the ridges to seal the roof from the weather. | ![]() Who's to climb the rickety ladder and fix that section of ridgecapping? |

It pays to have friends to help you from time to time with those heavier chores, but sometimes you still end up doing most of the work! |
| We may have completed the outside and put down some lawn, and while we now live inside, there remains plenty to be done. | ![]() Outside is done, the lawn too, we're in, but more to do! |
![]() Now we can enjoy walking out the front too. |
Our property is starting to look respectable, with front and rear lawns and only minor painting left to do, but inside ... well, you may find out soon what we have done there. |
