Totem Animals
Wolf

Wolf is the Pathfinder and is symbolic of Teacher - Wolf seeks the path of knowledge in order to teach others and share natures ancient truths and mysteries.  New paths are taken by Wolf  in order to constantly learn new ways for the betterment of all.  Wolf is also symbolic of freedom - freedom to be yourself.  Native Americans believe that Wolf is connected to the Dog Star, Sirius, which is said to be the Star and home of  our Ancients.  No wonder Wolf is looked upon as having great ancient knowledge.   Wolf is connected to the Moon and is often found howling at the time of the full moon.  The moon is symbolic of deep emotions and feminie energies.  Native Americans treat Wolf with great respect, considered to be their greatest Teacher.

Raven

Raven has always been considered symbolic of magic and mystery.  Many cultures look upon Raven in slightly different ways, but Native Americans consider Raven to be the messenger of the Great Mystery.  Raven helps you bring forth the Light, from Spirit which is especially good during healing.  Raven is very creative,  encouraging your ability and inspiration to create and manifest magically what it is you desire and need in your life.  Ravens and Wolves are often seen together and have been known to form bonds with each other.  The Raven helps Wolf during hunting and flies ahead signalling to Wolf where to run.  Raven often joins Wolf when feasting on a kill and can be found playing with Wolf.  Call on Raven to spin magic into your life if this is your totem.

Owl

There are many Owls, but the Great Horned Owl always comes to me.  Owl is considered the "Night Eagle" - Owl has keen sharp eyes and does not miss a trick. Again, Owl is thought of differently with many cultures, but with Native American Owl is connected to clairvoyant/clairaudience development and abilities, and all aspects of astral travel.  Owl is involved with magic as was also the case with the old Celtic and Druid cultures.  The Greek Goddess Athena had Owl at her side. Athena was the Goddess of Wisdom - the Owl is symbolic of wisdom.   Owl enables you to connect to ancient wisdom and your own inner wisdom. The Aboriginals in Australia believe the Owl represents the Soul of Women - they are looked upon as sacred.  Owl is mainly active at night and therefore is also deeply connected to the Moon as is Wolf.  Owl travels silently her feathers softly move never uttering a sound, she likes silence.

Lion

Fearless and proud, bringing forth the energies of courage and strength,  self-reliance and independence.  Since ancient times (particularly in ancient Egypt) the Lion as been associated with the Sun.  The Sun's energies are masculine as opposed to the Moon being feminine.  Male Lions tend to be a little less active than Females but are great protectors of the pride should danger present itself.  It is the female who does the majority of the hunting, bringing home the food for the pride and the "Master".  He often insists on feasting first!   The Male Lion may present himself to you for any of the above qualities, but also to show you if you are contributing and working enough to assist those around you.  We should be aware of not being lazy and relying on others to help us.  The Lion is also telling us to assert our authority and stand in our power and be motivated.

Learning the symbology and meaning of the totem animals means you must observe how these different species exist in their natural environment.
