Education

B.E. (Hons). Mining, University of New South Wales, 1972

M.Eng.Sc. Mining, University of Sydney, 1976

Dip.Ed. Technical, Newcastle C.A.E., 1984

Ph.D. Chemical Eng., University of Sydney, 1988

The Master of Engineering Science Degree was completed by research. Some course work was however completed to gain knowledge on microbiological and bio-chemical systems. The thesis looked at the destruction of residual cyanide in gold tailings using microbes (sewage).

The Doctorate was in the area of waste coal recovery. It looked at the recovery of such coal from both a resource conservation stance and as an environmental protection measure.

Additional Employment Aspects

-- As the principal of M.E.T.T.S. Pty Ltd

During 1990/91, presented a proposal for Packaged Power Plants to Philippine Energy Authorities(OEA), and developed a detailed scheme for the Combustion of Domestic Wastes with Power Generation for Cebu City, Philippines 1993/4. It has been accredited by the National Power Corporation of the Philippines and by the Metro Cebu Development Project. A similar scheme has been devised for Metro Manila. During negotiations regarding financing the combustor project, experience was gained in dealing with international financing agencies - including the Asian Development Bank, and the Asian Finance Investment Corporation, International Finance Corporation and Australia's EFIC and AUSTRADE.

In 1993, was an AIDAB resource person for two meetings of the AAECP Environmental and Energy groups in Kuala Lumpur. From 1973 to the present dealt in used equipment, including the successful placement of a Fluidised Bed Combustor, a major drying plant and dust control apparatus.

Since 1994, has acted as the Business Development Manager for The Tecniskill Co-operation Group of Companies. The work has involved sewage and waste management orientated activities. In September 1996 presented a seminar entitled, 'Sewage and Wastes Management in Cebu, The Future' for Tecniskill. (That business relationship is independent of M.E.T.T.S.)

From 1973 to the present has consulted in the area of Philippine coal and energy resources. Clients include an Australian coal company, a Philippine/Singaporean power group, and The National Power Corporation of The Philippines. In 1995 completed a major survey of those resources, and presented an paper on such at a regional coal conference. From 1993 - 97 was the group leader of Radiant Tube Technology, a research and development project that has achieved significant increases in the radiant output of natural gas combustion.

In 1998, was a Chemical Engineering Equipment Specialist, for the ADB Funded, OPCV managed, Engineering Higher Education Project, Indonesia.

Themes and Structure of Consultancy (M.E.T.T.S.)

Consulting in aspects of; Energy Resource Use, Energy Technology and Fuel Handling, and Waste Management;

Environmental Engineering associated with each of the above;

Technology Transfer to Developing Nations and

Training and Education to Complement all of the above.

Recent Research Activities

Two research projects were recently being undertaken. The first concerned the combustion of methane with increased radiance. The project was supported by Energy Research and Dev. Corp. The second involved the use of hydrocarbons as collectors in wastes and sewage processing.
