Egyptian Antiquities in Melboune -TOUR

Location: National Gallery of Victoria, and Australian Institute of Archaeology, Melbourne.
Time: Depart Sydney aprx 8am 25Oct (flight QF415), arrive Melb aprx 9:20am
      Depart Melb aprx 4pm 26Oct (flight QF446), arrive Syd aprx 5:20pm
Cost: $230 cheapest fare (21-day advance purchase, no refunds). Tour participants to make own flight arrangements: phone 13 13 13 if paying, or 13 10 64 if using Qantas Frequent Flyer points. The tour has obtained a group tariff at a hotel in the city at a cost of $45 per person (normally $50). Dinner at the hotel is a buffet, and costs $18.50. If taxis from/to the airports are shared, the cost should be about $7-$10 per person. Two day-passes for Melbourne trams will cost $4.30 x 2 = $8.60.
Description: On 26th August 1996 the National Gallery re-opened its antiquities collection after finishing the renovation of its gallery. Almost the entire collection of the Museum is on display, and includes about 800 antiquities from Egypt, ranging from the Predynastic to the Roman periods. This tour will have the benefit of the company of a professional excavating Egyptologist, Dr Boyo Ockinga. The tour will also visit the exhibition at the Australian Institute of Archaeology. Note: the Museum of Victoria is soon to change buildings, and will close until the year 2001.
